Taking The Heat Out Of Motorsport Videography

Local engineering company Darchem Engineering are quite the well kept secret around Teesside. Secluded in sunny Stillington on Tees is a company that supply all of the most advanced industries you can imagine (yes they really do) and their motorsport division supply nearly all the F1 teams as well as the other Formula divisions along with the likes of Nascar, Indycar, Le Manns 24 hrs etc etc etc.

I’ve been working with Darchem for nearly a decade, shooting photography and videography for their different departments and I can’t think of another client where I have learned so much, it’s been really interesting! So when their motorsport division wanted me to make a 4k promotional video for an upcoming trade show I was super excited.

A few meetings and discussions later we set about the project touring the design and production facilities with my trusty Canon camera, Dji gimbal (a super hand held stabiliser) and a Manfrotto tripod. We shot the key areas and activities with the help of the team who were a barrel of laughs and more than happy to get in the shots at every opportunity. It always makes my job so much easier when the clients team are up for it!

The key with the product is giving engine parts excellent thermal protection but adding as little weight as possible and given the clientele who come to Darchem for this we can safely say they’re the industry leaders by some margin. After the sales team got back from the show in Germany they kindly let me know that the video went down a storm! And that’s what my job is all about really, helping my clients cut through the noise and make those sales.
